Bibcheck Instructions and Help

  1. Create a Bibcheck Account
    1. Navigate to http://www.bibcheck.com/signup.
    2. Create a Bibcheck account. You will need to provide a login and password and a valid email address and you must accept the Terms of Service.
  2. Select either the Create a new reference list or the Quick start link from the home page.
    1. The Quick start link will default your writing style to the MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (7th ed., 2008).
      1. Select the type of reference you would like to cite. You can select from the following categories:
        1. CD-ROM or DVD-ROM
        2. Online Database
        3. Other Sources
        4. Print Book
        5. Print Periodicals
        6. Web
      2. Select a reference form.
        1. Certain fields of the reference form are required by the Modern Language Association.
          1. If you cannot locate the data, you may take your best guess, but you must mark the selection as "Uncertain Data Accuracy."
          2. If you cannot find the data and you do not have a best guess, mark the field as "Data Not Supplied."
      3. To commit the data to your bibliography, click Generate reference output.
      4. The cited reference will be placed in sequential order per Modern Language Association guidelines.
      5. To edit a reference entry, click on Edit.
        1. This feature is available only to registered users. To register, go to http://www.bibcheck.com/signup.
      6. To delete an entry, click Remove.
      7. To download your bibliography, click one of the following icons/links:
        1. Rich Text Format
        2. Microsoft Word Document
        3. PDF
      8. You can also email your reference to the email address associated with your account.
      9. Title your bibliography. To revisit your reference list in the future, click Manage my reference lists from the home page of http://www.bibcheck.com.
  3. To select an alternate writing style, click on Create a new reference list.
    1. Currently, Bibcheck supports the following writing styles:
      1. Modern Language Association
        1. 7th ed., 2008
      2. American Psychological Association
        1. 6th ed., 2009
